Hi, my name is Michael Figueiredo and I’m a freelance travel writer based in Los Angeles, California. When I’m not gallivanting around the world, I’m enjoying the laid-back lifestyle and perfect weather of Southern California. So far I’ve visited thirty-eight countries and territories on five continents. My goal is to see at least one new country every year!
People always ask me why I love traveling so much. It all started after I graduated from the University of California, San Diego and I did what so many others do—I bought a Eurail Pass and backpacked across Europe. My three-month long adventure was truly a life-changing experience for me. Ever since then I’ve had an insatiable passion for traveling, learning about other cultures, geography and world history. I decided that I didn’t want to be someone who waited until retirement to see the world. Life is unpredictable and I didn’t want to look back one day and say I wish I had done that or gone there.
I started the StruxTravel blog as a medium to share my personal perspectives on destinations, exhibit my photography and offer travel tips from my adventures around the globe. Besides this travel blog, I’m always on the lookout to write for national newspapers and magazines, as well as being an L.A. City Guide Examiner where I writes about subjects a little closer to home. To broaden my horizons, I’ve recently taken Portuguese language lessons as well as courses at West Los Angeles College in their Travel and Hospitality program. Last year I fulfilled my dream of opening my very own travel agency, further expanding the StruxTravel brand. Be sure to click on the “Agency” tab at the top of this webpage to find great deals on flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises and much more. Drop me a line and I can help plan your very own dream vacation too!
I live by the words of St. Augustine who famously said, “The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” Feel free to comment on any of the posts on StruxTravel, or email me directly by visiting the “Contact” tab on the home page. You can also follow me on Twitter and “like” my Facebook and Google+ pages too.
