Side Trip: A Day at the Underwood Family Farm, Moorpark, California

Located less than an hour north of Los Angeles, the Underwood Family Farm is a fantastic place to bring your kids for a fun and educational day out in the country. They’ll see all sorts of barnyard animals including cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, horses, donkeys, emus and alpacas. There’s a petting corral where they can get up close to some goats and sheep and children under 48” can even ride a pony. Other fun activities include climbing hay bales, taking a miniature train ride or riding in a “cow buggy” around the field.

The Underwood Family Farm is an actual, working farm that grows fruits and vegetables year-round. Visitors can climb aboard a tractor-drawn wagon and then can hop off at any time to pick their own produce. At the exit, whatever is picked is weighed and then charged by the pound. Depending on the season, you can harvest your own berries, lettuce, cabbage, beans, beets, squash, peas, apricots, tomatoes, and many other varieties of fruits and vegetables. Click here for their crop calendar to know what’s in season when you visit.
