Greetings From… Varenna, Italy

Lake Como, Lago di Como, Bellagio, Milan, Italy, Italia

Nestled between the rugged foothills of the Alps and the deep, cerulean waters of Lake Como lies the comune of Varenna, Italy. Only an hour’s journey north of Milan, Varenna’s idyllic natural setting has drawn visitors from the bustle of the big city for centuries. Evocative old buildings in shades of ochre, umber, and saffron line Varenna’s labyrinthine cobblestone alleyways. Poking high above the terracotta-tiled roofline is the steeple of San Giorgio parish church, which was consecrated back in 1313. A lovely promenade wends its way along the shoreline, passing stately villas and manicured gardens. Varenna is only a fifteen-minute ferry ride from the more well-known resort of Bellagio, but its stunning scenery and peaceful solitude make it the perfect lakeside retreat.
